In June 2022, while serving in the Armed Forces of Ukraine, he was captured by Russian forces, spending over two years in captivity before being released in October 2024 as part of a prisoner exchange. After returning from captivity, he continues his human rights advocacy, emphasizing support for other captives and adherence to international humanitarian law. He highlights the global significance of countering Russian aggression.
